This is what my {almost} 11 month old likes to do on the stairs. (In fact, he loves this. If I come behind him or the cat is in front of him, he climbs faster. Cute, but also a little scary.)
Baby gates won't fit on these stairs as a barrier because the railing isn't wide enough.
What is a mom to do? Suggestions welcome!

Ok, Mom and Dad have one that Ike and Caroline had in Annapolis. I will ask, I think it for odd banisters.
Ike and I used the retractable gate (expensive but worked well) at the bottom of our stairs. However, we had a wooden banester to screw it into... you have iron it looks like. That might not work for you.... How 'bout just alot of pillows and duct tape?! :)
that was supposed to be banister... hopefully you understood.
hmm... i see JM and I are blog stalking at the same time!! HI JM!
LOL
here is one like ours with a different attachment. this might work. sorry for the number of comments.

if that link doesnt work, just google search "retractable baby gate" this one came up by KidSafe. it shows a metal banister like yours that it attaches to.
No stairs in this house, but we visited a friend how did have stairs and after my daugther went up the stairs several times, I had, had enough.
Go to www.babygates.com and see if you can find something there. They have many different types.
We have a similar issue and found an adapter that kind of velcros around whatever you are attaching it to. I think it came from the catalog/online One Step Ahead, so try there and if not then google it!

Wow your page is so cute and you baby is too.
I think bubble wrap for the baby would be good that way he will be protected.

Hi, over from ICLW,
Have you ever seen those supergates?
You can connect them to make a play pen but they are also super sturdy when the sides are angled. I know it sounds weird but that thing saved my "new mommy" life repeatedly. It kept my kiddo off the stairs for months.
Sorry, it's a superyard, not a supergate. here is the link,

I like the bubble wrap suggestion :)

We have a similar problem with our stairs and almost had to get a gate for them for our foster care approval. We could not find a single one to work with our stairs. I hope you have better luck.
Sue, call me when you can. We had the same problem and joe was able to manipulate a gate to work and not only is it functional, it looks great! Kelly Todd
Ooo..that's a tough one. I hope you can figure something out. Wish I could be more help.
